A federal judge ruled Michigan's notification law did not alert owners quickly enough; owners may ask a local court for a hearing on whether the tow is legal before having to pay (U.S. PIRG, 2021).
Kickbacks
U.S. PIRG's state survey (2022) found no law here banning kickbacks to property owners for private-property tows. If money changed hands behind your tow, that fact still belongs in your complaint.
