Pay under protest, bond it out, fight from possession

Indiana's 75%-plus-bond release is the model. How to get the truck earning first and dispute second, without waiving the dispute.

A truck that is not rolling is not earning, and a driver does not win by standing in a yard office being right. The release mechanisms are the law's answer: get the truck first, dispute from possession.

Indiana wrote the model: recover the vehicle by paying 75% of the bill and posting bond for the rest. Everywhere else, the doctrine is pay under protest — and the words matter. Write them on the payment and the receipt: “I pay this invoice under protest, reserving all rights to dispute the charges.” A clean payment can be read as agreement; a protested one preserves the claim for the demand letter, the board complaint, and the insurer.

Colorado's car side carries the same idea for residents (15% down, never more than $60, 90 days for the balance) — the shape is the same on both sides of the weight line: the law would rather you had your vehicle and a dispute than neither.

Then dispute it line by line: the heavy checker.
